I believe that TfL avoid doing anything that looks too much like the tube map in advertising so that people don't confuse it with the real thing.
It's probably the reason that whenever you see an advert on the underground which apes the tube map it's always a crappy version. You know, all Gill Sans and the wrong shaped corners.
It makes sense really, it would be pretty annoying if you kept seeing things that looked like the tube map everywhere you went.

I was looking at these just yesterday. I think the whole campaign – there's a shopping one with a barcode, an airport one with a paperplane – is flawed and shows how difficult it is to do a simple idea well. They're each too complicated.
That football one factors in turf, a striped football shirt, a slide mark in the turf, some of but not all the tubeline colours... too many ideas squeezed into one image. Edit!

I like the concert ones on the video screens on the escalators. I think they're a good use of a fairly new medium. My only criticism is that the notes move too quickly; they should move about the same speed as a person on the escalator.

When I saw them last weekend I thought a similar thing, but came to the conclusion that there are both high profile football and rugby games on currently - hense the ambiguity of "the match"...
