If you're reading this you're probably an Apple fan. If you're an Apple fan you're probably beside yourself with excitement that Steve might (might) launch an iPhone on Tuesday at the Macworld Expo, San Francisco. Except that it won't be called an iPhone of course.
The best place to read about iPhone rumours is macrumors.com and their round up of Macworld rumours. They'll be running a live text commentary (there is no streaming video until later) on Steve's big speech over at macrumorslive.com. The big speech is 9am PST Tuesday, which I believe is 5pm GMT (is that correct?).
For what it's worth, I reckon they probably will launch one. And I, like you, will be in the queue to buy one. I read somewhere the other day that 25% of Americans would buy a Mac Phone. That's a lot of people for a product that doesn't even exist.
Over here you can see what I think is by far the best mock up of an Apple phone, although I still insist it won't look like anyone predicts.
And lastly, over here you can find out whether Khoi Vinh (design director of NYTimes.com) would buy one.

I'm glad it's not just me who's getting stupidly excited about it

Excited? I've arranged my business schedule so that I can be at my desk at the time Steve goes on stage. But, I guess it's not quite as good as being there. I usually get goosebumps when I watch the keynote videos - Apple are so damn good at presenting stuff.

Risks are here to be taken, so here's what I say: there will be no mobile phone from Apple.
They'll improve the iPod with a wireless thang, but I think that's all.
And I do believe they've been working on a Skype-killer based on iChat.
If I'm right (and if you ask me) I'll tell you what strategic reasons I do believe are behind these strange prediction.
If I'm wrong you'll be able to remember be as the strange guy and laugh at me…

iChat is already a Skype killer isn't it? Certainly you can do everything you can do on Skype.

Well, not really.
If you think about the features that made Skype so popular, you can see that Skype can be connected with any OS, when iChat can't connect with other people than AIM or .mac people, if you see what I msnean.
And I can't call on a "classic" phone, neither can't I be called from one.
This kind of things could be really nice on a supercool piece of software that could seduce people the way iTunes did.
A smart way to make more people switch, and probably more efficient than the supposed "halo" effect. In theory.
But these are just dreams, wait and see, as you people say.
